#siselfie - Staten Island selfie campaign spawns from Borough Hall

Everybody has a favorite place to go on Staten Island.

Make sure to take a picture in it.

Be it the tranquil Greenbelt, the busy Staten Island Mall, the relaxing South Beach boardwalk, or one of the many delicious pizzerias here, borough residents are being called upon to snap a selfie in their go-to spot.

Residents and folks visiting the borough are encouraged to post photos of themselves at Island locations and add the hashtag "#siselfie" to the photos they post on social media.

The initiative was launched by the Borough President's Office Friday afternoon -- fittingly with a selfie taken by Borough President James Oddo and his staff outside of Borough Hall in St. George.

Oddo and his staff plan on spreading the word by sending fliers to various Island organizations.

"Selfies are a pretty self-centered, self-absorbed thing when you think about it. We are kind of hijacking the phenomenon not to highlight ourselves as individuals, but to showcase our Island and the good people and great places in it," said Oddo. "We're hoping this catches on. It's a fun way to use social media to boost the pride Staten Islanders have in our hometown."

Oddo plans to repost the images on the official Borough President social media accounts.

(So do we.)
